Energetic Spring: The Cameraless Art of Robert Buelteman

Dandelion (2012)

Hand-made 30 x 24” silver-gelatin print

Please join me A WEEK FROM TODAY on Thursday, April 16th from 4-6pm at the Atherton Public Library for a Springtime presentation about the genesis of my cameraless photography.

Borne of a love of science and exploration, these works have more in common with Chinese ink brush painting and improvisational jazz than with the well-worn traditions of photography. Like every brush stroke or note played, every application of light cannot be rehearsed, and once exposed to the film, cannot be undone. The resulting images, free of the distortions found in traditional photography, reveal unrecognized dimensions in the commonplace plants we see every day.

With this work, I am chasing something I cannot possibly define, anticipate, or manage into existence. In surrendering to my artistic practice, I see glimpses of my work, my world, and myself as a part of a larger whole, connected through my art.

Admission is free, but we ask that you reserve a spot through Eventbrite.
